Not as bad as it could have been

My wife owns a house that she rents to our middle daughter, LeiLani. This afternoon, LeiLani called and said she could smell smoke and the ceiling was hot. She said Melvin, her husband put his hand up to the ceiling and burned it. So she called the fire department. They arrived within minutes and checked out the area. Faulty electrical wiring was causing the insulation to smolder. It had charred one of the roof beams quite badly. They broke though the kitchen ceiling, pulled out all of the smoldering insulation and knocked it down with fire extinguishers. The fire marshall said 30 minutes more and the whole house would have been gone. Fortunately, they were home and caught it in time. There was some damage, but it is minor compared to what it might have been.
