Around the Lake
When I'm strapped for blips, which doesn't happen too often, I often will take a walk around the lake in the university across the street. As I'm sure many of you know, getting a good picture is as much about looking ahead and having your camera ready as it is about focusing and clicking.
Walking around the perimeter of the lake, I was reminded of this again. A small turtle sunbathing on a pipe slipped into the water only giving me a glance at his shell, a heron took off, beautifully gliding over the water but quickly getting out of sight, and a frog, making a big splash, disappeared under a lily pad.
So I had to resort to something that wasn't going anywhere. These waterlilies open up in the cool of the morning but are usually closed by 10:00 or 11:00 a.m. Their color, however, is brilliant open or closed.
