Dragonfly

I've been trying to get a picture of a dragonfly for just about the whole quarantine so far. I finally did it today! This little guy is an eastern pondhawk. Or should I say girl, since it's probably a female. Only the very young males are this green. When the males mature, they turn a beautiful blue. I had always thought that the green and blue dragonflies were two different species, but I was wrong. Once this one's done resting in the sunlight, hopefully she'll go eat more mosquitoes. She can easily out-fly them, going 60 mph to their 1 mph! If mosquitoes were as fast as us, and she was sped up in proportion, she's be able to move too fast for us to react! Hundreds of miles an hour, maybe even well over a thousand! She's like a little superhero using her super-speed to save the world from mosquitoes. Or more accurately, she's God's natural mosquito plane. Dragonflies even eat mosquito larvae when they're at their nymph stage. The gift even comes in beautiful wrapping, that marvelous green (or blue) color that shines in the sun.
