Loquat he did

I was quite dismissive of loquats/nisperos the other day. But the other tree at the bottom of the garden is either in better soil or has been pruned better, because the fruits are larger and, frankly, absolutely delicious. The birds can keep gorging on the one by the terrace (kestrels permitting), but we'll have these.

Blip: today's dessert. S peeled and stoned the loquats (the stones are massive, that's one of the reasons why small fruits are not worth the trouble). Then he baked them with orange juice, Cointreau, a little sugar, and a few rock-hard strawberries that were hanging around in the fridge. Excellent result! We had them with Greek yoghurt (me) and cream (S).

Beforehand: an appetiser of slices of courgette topped with goat's cheese, green peppercorns and miel de caña and grilled (unphotogenic). And secreto of pork in our own invented recipe, slow-braised in a sauce of PX sherry and dried fruit and served with rice. We needed a lie down afterwards. But before that I baked the hot cross buns I'd made with the fresh yeast I bought yesterday, and made a sourdough loaf. Our lives seem to be revolving around food for lack of other things to do.

A bit of sunbathing and then it clouded over. I think we're going to watch Billy Wilder's The Apartment this evening. Did not find HIGNFY amusing yesterday. Mind you, we haven't watched it since the early 1990s. The format made it hard for the teams to engage in repartee, the video clips were all viral ones we'd already seen (this was not a problem in 1990), and, well, current news just isn't funny. Feeling slightly optimistic about the flattening of the curve in both Spain and France, but it's really too early to tell. #QuedateEnCasa !
