A few weeks ago, my eye was caught by the image of Serafina Steer's unruly hair. She looked interesting and she was on a festival bill with Belle & Sebastian. I thought I'd listen to her new album and it's been on my playlist ever since. It's fabulous. So, when I saw she was launching her new album at St Leonard's Church in Shoreditch, I jumped at the chance to see her in a small venue. The church is quite an historic venue - many Elizabethan actors are buried here along with the man Parkinson's disease is named after.

Unfortunately, the church was freezing and there were only cold drinks on offer. We kept on our coats, gloves and hats and settled down to listen to the hypnotic, eclectic sounds of San Moritzz.

On a wander to find the ladies room, I took a wrong turning and before me was Jarvis Cocker and Serafina Steer. I was momentarily starstruck, then I came to and ran back downstairs, convinced the show was about to begin. As it was, they took ages to appear. It dawned on me that the people conversing behind me and to the right of Fred, were Serafina's family, notably her mum right beside Fred and her dad behind me. We were informed that Serafina was wearing her mum's shoes, which were bought from Harrod's a long while ago.

The band gradually took their positions: the Manchester String Quartet, The Boxettes, and quite a few others. Serafina appeared and addressed us all. She was immediately likeable. A group of photographers settled themselves in the central aisle of the church right to my left and before Serafina.

Disco Compilation - you can hear me laughing at the start!
Night Before Mutiny - the best song of the night, with Jarvis on the whooshing instrument
The Removal Man - I can't get this song out of my head; has with Jarvis on backing vocals and tambourine duty
Alien Invasion
Island Odyssey
