Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

2020 Wednesday — Packing His Things

For a few days we left these things in his crate, the little harness, the collar, and the leash we’ve used for years to walk with Max. Now we’re packing-up those things that were always his. We realize a chapter in our lives is through, but a book would be more accurate.

We are so glad we were given this little canine who became part of our family. There are two others, Mitzi and Chloe, so he was one of three, but distinctly unique. He was the only male, beautifully black, and usually hungry.

He always had the bottom bunk; he loved to walk, and he loved the sandy shore the best. He wasn’t a snuggle bug, but every morning and every evening he liked to lay on the end of our bed. He loved to go to the groomer’s, he loved to go to the kennel, he loved to go to the vet’s; he just loved to go.

It was so hard to let Max go. We were told a year ago that Max had liver disease, so we knew his days were running out. Then he went blind in one eye. Then he went completely blind last July. We just kept loving him, walking him, feeding him, and enjoying him.

I guess we should be embarrassed by our enormous emotion and feeling of loss. Mr. Fun is a bundle of emotion too. It may take us several days, a few weeks to saddle this grief, so in Max's honor, in memory of him, we are recording some of what we're feeling.
