Survivors of the Frost

While out birdwatching on Wanstead Flats this morning, I found this rather beautiful fungus growing on an old fallen log. Most of the snow on the Flats has melted in the past couple of days, but there was still some ice covering the log and forming tiny frost icicles in the folds of the fungus.

I don't know my fungi, so I can't tell you what species it is, although from what I do know, I believe that what you can see is just a small part, with the fungus spreading a network of filaments through the log, digesting it.
