Emerging

We went to the Rococo Gardens (near Painswick) this morning to see the fine display of snowdrops. The 18th century woods there contain one of the largest natural collections of the Common Snowdrop, Galanthus Nivalis, in England. It was the Swedish botanist and father of Botanical Nomenclature, Carl Linnaeus, who gave the Snowdrop its Latin name. The species name, Nivalis, refers to snow and could be a reference to the period in which it flowers or the clarity of the flower's colour.

My favourites were the ones which seemed to "emerge" through the blanket of snow (now thawing)!
