It's a dog's life!
I was asked to walk Dornie and Shuna today (and tomorrow) and took them down to the lochside for what has become our regular route, from Milarrochy to Manse Bay and back.
I was surprised and disappointed to find that the two dead sheep I reported about 10 days ago were still lying on the shore at Manse Bay, having been told by a ranger last Sunday that he was on his way to clear up the beach there. By now the corpses are even more decomposed and it looks as if they have been scavenged - by goodness knows what! Fox? Mink? Seagulls? Dogs?
Back at the office at Milarrochy I spoke to two rangers, who knew of the problem but explained that, for health reasons (the possibilty of disease), they were not allowed to deal with it. Apparently the sheep are the resposibility of the farmer who owns them, and if, as in this case, the tags on the sheep's ears are no longer there, the farmer cannot be identified, so no-one does anything! A case of passing the buck, methinks!
Here are two very sleepy dogs after their daily exercise. I like the way they cuddle up together :-)
