Oslo to Bergen railway
Sunday 31st March 2019 was my first full day in Norway and the first half of the day was taken up with a wonderful train journey across the south of Norway, from Oslo to Bergen. The views were spectacular as we passed through glaciated valleys, often with frozen lakes such as this one (Kroderen), gradually climbing up to the high snow-covered plateau, reaching a maximum altitude of 1222 metres at Finse.
Great things about Norwegian trains:
- you are told when it's 5 or 6 minutes to the next station.
- if the train comes to a halt there is an announcemeant to tell you why e.g. signals, waiting for another train.
- a family carriage with a play compartment for children
- free tea, coffee and hot chocolate in Comfort Class.
