Dance of the starlings

Highlight of today was the short trip to a small nature reserve called "t Roegwold" (Rough Forest...) near Slochteren to see the starling spectacle.

Just before sunset thousands and thousands starlings fly in huge groups over the trees to find a spot for the night. An amazing view, especially when a bird of prey joins in. The starlings then form the most spectaculair forms and it looks as if they're dancing.

The bird most on the left in the photo is probably a buzzard or a falcon.
What an impressive sight and noise when they all whizz over your head.
I think I'm going back tomorrow night. If the weather allows.
