Och aye the noo
It was Burns' Night last night, hence the photo of neeps and tatties today. I've still to have my haggis feast later tonight. (If you've never had haggis, best just to try it first, rather than researching what's in it!)
Anyway, I thought it was my duty to educate any non-Scots in the 'wisdom' of our people..... :)
Jings, crivvens, help ma boab! - (Oh my goodness!)
I'll have a plehn een and an ingin een an ah - (I'll have a plain one and an onion one as well - referring to a 'Farfar bridie', a local delicacy)
Awa an bile yer heid! - (You're talking rubbish/you're getting on my nerves)(often said affectionately)
Is your cat deid? - (upon seeing someone with too-short/half-mast trousers on)
Gie it laldy! - (do it with gusto/enthusiasm)
Haud yer wheesht! - (be quiet)
What's fur ye won't pass by ye - (if it's meant to be it will happen)
Yer like a pund o mince - (you're a bit of a mess)
Yuv a face lik a coo's erse/slapped erse - (you're looking a bit fed-up)
I've drapped it in the cundie - (I dropped it down the drain by mistake)
It's pure hoachin in here the night - (It's very busy in here tonight)
I'm fair puggled - (I'm tired/out of breath/full)
I'm scunnered - (I'm fed-up)
I'm stackit fu - (I've eaten too much)
He's pure steamin (He has partaken of a few whiskies too many)
....it's hard to stop now I've started........
