Going Nowhere
Yes, we still have the Jag in our drive and it looks like it might be there for a long, long time.
It all seems a long time ago now and probably everyone has forgotten, but in February our car was damaged by a guy in a car park accidentally running into the back of it. We were offered a car to replace ours whilst it was being mended and we insisted on a large one, as we were driving down to Kent for a week. The Jag was all the rental company could offer us. It was great whilst we were away, but has hardly moved since, as we are making very few journeys now.
The reason it is still there is the time it is taking to repair our car. Apparently the damage was so serious that at one point the Insurance Company was deciding whether it was worth fixing at all. Thankfully they decided it was, but by then time had gone on, a huge list of parts had to be ordered and eventually work was begun. Last week Gordon found they were 90% completed . . . and then the garage closed. So when it will be finished we have no idea. And meanwhile the rental company has also closed.
So, it looks like it is going to be a permanent fixture. The trouble is that it does our street cred no good at all, because everyone knows it isn't ours!
Looking at what was happening on this day last year. In the morning I found a reference in the paper to a Roman site that I knew nothing about. So we got in the car, set off to find it and had a wonderful afternoon exploring. I don't think we will be doing anything like that for a very long time. No good having the use of a posh car if you can't go anywhere in it.
