J+10- Scarecrow
Natasha and I walked to the allotment today, the first time she was setting foot outside since she arrived from St Andrews on Saturday. We pondered whether this constituted our "daily exercice" (we are allowed out 1 hour a day within a 1 km range of our house for this purpose), or an outing for "essential supply" - we opted for the first one as except for the odd rocket or lambs lettuce, there is little in the allotment. We were disappointed to see that the peas we planted last week suffered from the frost but they will hopefully recover.
We planted the mangetout we had seeded in a tray at home, some tarragon and a rhubarb plant I found yesterday at the supermarket. Sandy was pleased to see it grows here as it never survived when we were in Provence: there are two healthy plants in the plot next to ours which used to be tended by a Scottish lady who has now moved to Sanday in the Orkney Islands - a nice coincidence as Sandy's grandparents were living there when he was a young boy.
One of the gardeners built a nice scarecrow, maybe it will also shoo the viruses away!
