Coalmine monument

This is where the entrance to the former coal mine Laura was located. The Laura mine was in operation from 1899-1970.
Laura was the first name of the wife of Antoon Wackers from Herzogenrath, who together with his brother-in-law had applied on January 14, 1873, for the concession for the extraction of coal at Eygelshoven.
The first drilling work started in 1900. The deepest point reached was at a depth of 680 meters.
