Civilised Supermarket Shopping
After two Saturdays of not being able to obtain enough vegetables and high protein produce to last me for the week because of panic buying by the populus and empty shelves I had to bite the bullet and go for some essentials today. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. It was all very civilised:
queuing for 15 minutes to get in to Sainsbury’s whilst maintaining a distance of more than 2 metres or more from others in the queue;
Numbers in store limited to about 100 which made it easy to maintain a 2m distance from others; and
No one complained or tried to flout the distancing rules or queue jump.
In the supermarket some items were in short supply but everything available, apart from some wines and spirits, with a limit of 2 per customer on the items that people seem to stockpile and panic buy (toilet rolls, soaps, long life milk, pasta .....); There were even lots of yellow labels on vegetables and I was able to get mince and chicken thighs.
Also went to Aldi’s and had similar experience; again orderly queue and limited customer numbers allowed in store. Picked up lots of red labels on vegetables and berries.
I now have enough fruit and vegetables to last me a week.
Did not go anywhere else so don’t know what Lidl, Tesco or Morrison’s are like.
Must say I felt quite safe in both Sainsbury’s and Aldi’s and it was more pleasant than a typical Saturday afternoons shop with customer numbers being limited. Perhaps it might be an idea to maintain this civilised method of shopping even when the battle to contain the virus has been won.
