Our Secret

I love when something out of the ordinary happens when blipping. Today, I set out to blip this rather ordinary looking pond next to a road and a stone wall. I had taken a few shots and was less than thrilled. Before leaving, I did my accustomed 360 degree scan to see if there was anything else of interest. Low and behold, I saw this random bike wheel. It was hidden behind the stone wall and invisible to passing cars and people. I felt like I had found a secret treasure known to only a few.

My goal was to capture the wheel in its untouched state and the random leaves and pine needles in the picture reflect the strategy. However, when reviewing the shot, I thought that the contrast was lacking because of the rusted metal and all the random bits encircling the wheel. A bit of Photoshop work including selective color and color tweaks remedied the situation.

Channel Mixer Layer to convert to B&W with mask to keep wheel in color
Curves layer to improve B&W contrast
Color Balance layer to tweak the color of the wheel
