I’m rather fed up with this virus so I dunked my head in the sea. The air temperature was 1 degree C and it would be fair to say the water was extraordinarily cold.

Still, I felt better for having done it. I thought of a friend who is in hospital. I thought of my dear Mum, gone these past 20 years, who would have dunked her head right alongside me.
