Hobbs's Run

Stand of Trees

Here's another example of the local mountain bush showing signs of revival. I suspect that this stand of trees was deliberately backburned to protect nearby houses. Nonetheless, sections of forest that have suffered direct onslaught are looking not dissimilar.

Now that the hysteria is passed, we are finally getting some sober, considered numbers coming through about the extent of the damage. One report I came across last week suggests that about 20% of Australia's forest areas have been affected to some extent by the flames. Of that area, up to half will heavily depend on successful regrowth from seed. Now that is bad enough ... but not quite as bad, perhaps, as has been generally made out. Moreover, with all the recent rains, the future looks promising.
