These lens-shaped orographic wave clouds form when the air is stable and winds blow across hills and mountains from the same or similar direction at different heights through the troposphere.
Height of base: 6,500 - 16,500 ft
Shape: Curved layers, like flying saucers
Latin: Altocumulus lenticularis = “like a lens”
Precipitation: None
Not sure about stable air - its pretty blowy outside this evening.
