Social distance
The term, "social distance" seems to have been hijacked by the strategists who think they are dealing with covid-19. If you were a psychology student in the 1970s or 1980s or even more recently, you will be aware of the Bogardus Social Distance Scale. It is not a scale that measures how far away you distance yourself from the sneezes of others. It is a measurement of how comfortable an individual is with people from other social groups. There are measures that allow you to plot a scattergram showing the distancing that a person prefers from people of different social, religious and racial groups. Me? I don't distance from anyone on those measures, all elements of the human race are welcome in my world. But I am distancing physically from anyone who might give me the dreaded virus. We went out today only to make a hospital visit and I got out of the car for just a moment to capture the gate to Belfast's Botanic Gardens (should that not really be "Botanical Gardens"). On a normal sunny Sunday it would be teeming with people but not today. We do still see some idiots walking around in groups of 5 or 6, mostly younger people and supermarket behaviours are still spatially unhealthy. Stay at home, people! We had aperos with Peter and Janice via Facebook video and had 90 minutes of wine and craic (extra). I guess 800 miles of distancing is safe enough.
