A place in time

New beginnings

Lockdown day #1

Well, today was the first day of official lockdown.  We have been advised to practice "social distancing", so Mr A and I spent most of the day inside carrying out online accounts work, we did take a walk in the afternoon.  We walked up to the Rec, then did a loop of the Arboretum, before taking a circuitous route home again.

Amazingly, there appeared to be a handful of mums sitting in the village coffee shop, seemingly without a care in the world.  Weren't we told to avoid such places and only order "take-outs"?  However, since it was the last day of school attendance for the kids here, perhaps the mums and youngsters in the park were having a final fling?

To be honest, it's not totally clear whether Mr A and I should even have been out walking?  Of course, we weren't near anyone else and we were in the fresh air...perhaps it will all be clarified in time?  Mind you, I've seen images of other towns and cities where the lockdown appears to be total, with not a soul out and about.  Already, the canals of Venice appear to be full of fish life, in clearer waters without the diesel spills and motorboat engines stirring up the canal sediment.  Air quality worldwide seems to be improving at a pace.  And how lovely it is to be able to hear birds singing without the thrum of road traffic.

Anyway, I spotted this fallen tree in the arboretum, with the cluster of spring flowers growing by the roots and thought it summed up "New Beginnings" for us all.

Thought for the day:

"You need to learn from your mistakes to start a new beginning..."  (Ivan Hakin)
