Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

The kindness of neighbours, and strangers!

JR did her exercises, and then, later in the day, went for a walk/jog around the Meadows, just to try it out. And surprising herself, she enjoyed it, though there was more walking than jogging. She also ordered a set of dumbbells and a skipping rope. Who needs the gym?

Elizabeth came to take Archie out for the day, so I set to and washed the carpet with Christine's machine. The colour of the water after it was a shock!

The neighbours offered to get some shopping for us today, so I’d ordered milk, bread and bananas, but definitely NO chocolate. This caused some confusion. Liv kept texting all evening asking if I did actually want chocolate, and I’d say NO - DON'T get chocolate. Chris, her husband, texted again in the morning, asking if I really did want chocolate, and still I said No, that I definitely didn't want a big bar of Fruit’n’Nut included in the shopping. (I always ask JR to pick up chocolate when she's out, but she never very rarely does.) The shopping arrived - but no chocolate as directed. I feigned disappointment.

Later in the morning, they turned up on the doorstep with two big bars of Fruit’n’Nut! Most amusing. Nice to have helpful neighbours.

Elizabeth is picking up some stuff tonight when she does her own shopping. And today a young lady who lives in the neighbourhood posted a note through the door giving her address and phone number and saying that she was available for going errands. Somebody had the great idea to start #viralkindness...

Lots of kindness going on... except when we see the news about the supermarket madness.
