Life in Newburgh on Ythan

By Talpa

The haggis awaits his fate.

His knife see rustic Labour dight,
An' cut you up wi' ready sleight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like ony ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin', rich!

From Robert Burns' Address to a Haggis. 1786.

Tonight is the night. The programmes are printed. The tatties and the neeps have been brought in from the fields ready to be boiled and chappit. The great and ancient haggis-gutting knife of the Clan Talpa has been honed. The haggis awaits and trembles!

If you wish, you can listen to the full address.
