Abernethy and Spencer is one of the Mid-Atlantic region's oldest greenhouse and garden centers, 5 acres of flowers and trees to wander with the Blue Ridge in the background. They also have numerous rescue critters - dogs, ducks, and parrots - to admire and navigate. One of the parrots landed on my shoulder once while I was waiting in the cashier line. Not sure if s(he) was more interested in my purchase or earrings or just had something to tell me. It was a good place to go today, in the spring warmth with few people about. My son D. and I bought a willow sapling (rosemary willow) for his science project, which we're tailoring to fit into a yard project of mine. He was anxious about being out in public, but since we're still able I thought it good to get him away from home for a bit.
