The ice sheet
This is our walkway out the back door of the yarn shop on 25th Street. We've had freezing rain since 8 a.m. this morning. It starts out as rain in the upper atmosphere. But, because of our temperature inversion, it freezes when it gets to our inversion layer. The result is ice, pure ice. This is the first time I have ever known it to be this way. It is extremely slick on the sidewalks and roadways. It does scrape off very easily, but freezes right back on. Needless to say, we're not using this walkway!
