I See You!
He thought he was hiding, looking at me while I was looking at him, just taking a little rest while his mate was trying to lead me away, thought it may've been a nest but no he was just taking it easy!
A Variable Oystercatcher, protected and endemic to New Zealand, widespread along the coastlines of the three main islands. The only oystercatchers that show plumage variations, with the birds seen in two plumage phases: either all black or a pied form. Usually seen in pairs and when approached the birds run rapidly away rather than fly at once. Birds make a 'hu-eep' alarm call and are quiet except for a 'kleep' call in flight.
