Historical Site

Portland Cement Works was one of Australia's most successful lime quarrying cement manufacture enterprises.  Construction of the works  began in 1890 and the site was closed down in 1991.  

The portraits on the silos,  painted 2 years ago, depict people who worked at the cement works and are still living in Portland today.  

When we moved from the city to the Upper Blue Mountains 7 years ago we planned to explore small country towns west of here.  Sadly, it's taken a pandemic to get us moving.  Peter and I are self isolating by only leaving the house for groceries and drives into the countryside.
