The smallprint
Have you tried these? Of course, they are not quite as large as depicted on the label...but pretty chunky for a mandarin. Now, they tasted like mandarins (albeit a tad dry) but my question is...how did they get them that size? What on earth did they modify them with? And then I spotted a little list of "treated with" nasties. What on earth is Imazalil/Thiabendazola/OPP and wax, E903, E914. I'm not really sure I want to find out, do I?
Well, it turns out that:
Imazalil is a fungicide used on citrus fruits
Thiabendazola is a preservative and anti-worm treatment
E903 is carnauba wax
E914 is oxidised polyethylene wax
While OPP appears to be a rap song sung by Naughty By Nature...?
And there was us thinking we were choosing to eat healthily by choosing fresh fruits!
On another note we received a courier delivery today and guess what...we were order number 13 (see mention of 13 last Friday) on the list of planned deliveries for the day.
Mr A Jnr also popped by at lunchtime on a flying visit to collect a parcel of his that was delivered here as he thought it would be out for delivery when he was on holiday last week. It was lovely to see him briefly, but now that we are all advised to reduce social contact with others as much as possible (due to the dreaded C word), I do wonder whether we won't be able to see much of him in the near future. He will also be working from home after tomorrow, in line with the rest of his company.
In the meantime, my Mum has definitely hunkered down for the duration now and has cancelled upcoming appointments for haircut, hearing aid fitting & cardiology follow-up. To be honest, I don't blame her. Just so long as she can still get her Tesco groceries and Wiltshire Farm deliveries, she will be fine.
I wonder what our descendents will make of this current C-crisis? Will it be looked upon as the time the Earth claimed back her health? At least all our online journals will record the event, rather like the Mass Observation Project of WW2?
Thought for the day:
