That’s Where They Went
Firstly, many thanks for all of the comments, stars and hearts over recent days. It’s always difficult to keep up with things while I’m away. I want to enjoy the time so tend to spend (even) less time here. Hopefully I’ve caught up now.
This morning started with a trip to replenish the food cupboards. I’d only seen a few instances of the panic buying before, but the empty shelves, particularly for tinned goods, pasta and the once ubiquitous toilet rolls laid testament to the worry being felt as the virus strikes home. I watched a lady climb onto the shelving to retrieve the last small pack of toilet rolls, despite being warned it might not take her weight!
Then it was off to town to collect a parcel from the post office. I decided to walk back home, only to find that the towpath was closed on the most direct route along the Walsall Canal. I could have moaned, but the works being carried out are to improve and surface the path, so in the long run we’ll all benefit. There is a longer route home, utilising another canal and it was as I was walking passed some canal side homes that I observed where at least some of the toilet rolls had ended up. If the occupiers had taken to stacking them on the window sill, blocking the light it made me wonder how many more were in the house?
It was a pleasure to see all the evidence of spring colour coming through including flowering cherry trees and camellia flowers, but this scene typified what is going on in many countries as the virus gets to grip with our concerns.
