Curlew
Today I went on an outing with my "Birds of a Feather" bird group who I've only managed one trip with before. We started with a wander along the River Esk from Inveresk village - full of very grand homes - and then moved on to the mouth of the River Esk in Musselburgh, where I took this photo. We didn't stay long - it was blowing a gale there - you can see the wind ruffling the curlew's feathers. At least curlews are a reasonable size, and this one was relatively close - I took some photos of a grey wagtail by the Esk which were fairly hopeless. I should get a bigger lens, but I just can't see me lugging it around on a walk!
