The Local

My favourite perch at the local pub is this window. It overlooks the railway station to the right, the former brickworks to the left and, because the window is slightly darkened, people passing directly outside can’t see you but you can see them. If you watched too many Westerns in your youth, it also has the advantage that you can swivel around and keep an eye on the door.

We’re heading back for a pub meal tonight and, unfortunately, it’ll probably be a table for two looking into the bar. Other people also favour this spot.

The extra is a slightly distressed wall-mounted smokers ashtray at another local pub. Don’t ask.
