Dig for victory

Was really struck by news that Italy needs 375,000 migrant workers for veg and fruit harvest. Who probably won’t be coming. That Spain is shutting down and Larry Summers is saying economies will move to a more self sustaining basis. Seems to me there has never been a better time to grow your own bits and pieces of food if you can. If the lockdown goes on for long we will be eating a mix of our dried broad beans and walnuts at the end. And hoping something fills the ‘hungry gap’ of the lean spring months.

The figures for Italy looked grim today but it will take a time and toll to see if the lockdown is working. Desperate times north of us in Lombardy but through heroic work new ICU facilities are being created.
