Mah-jong helper

The Mah-jong Group in our WI is full so a new one has been started. I volunteered to teach the newcomers how to play and today was the day! Before thay came I set out tiles from three different sets to show them what they all meant. Inevitably Coco thought she would help.

The set that I put out first was hand carved by my father in the 1940s. It is accurate in every detail including the curved backs to the tiles. I understand he used to sandpaper the tiles on the train on his commute to London!

He was a very clever, talented and imaginative man. He died when he was just forty. I do wish I had known him when I was an adult and better able to appreciate him. I am fortunate to have his Mah-jong set to enjoy.
