The campus groundworks team have had a serious chop of all the reeds and vegetation surrounding the upper lochan. The reeds were spreading, and I thought they'd do as last time, when a specialist removed those that were moving out into the previously clear areas. Can't envisage any of the waterfowl nesting in the above area this year. That said, they're probably safer nesting in the lower lochan, as there's much more cover to hide their youngsters from the preying gulls and crows... assuming that's not to be similarly cropped. It could do with cutting back, rather the above loping. As the swans have just built their nest, they should be quite safe.
After work, stayed back until near closing time, and then slowly meandered down to the station. First train journey for several years, and if I don't count a work related trip to Rosyth, it's probably the first one this millennium. First trip on the Caledonian Sleeper - a seat on board, rather than the posher accommodation available. Very pleasant, especially compared with the cramped bus journey to work this morning. Loads of space, attentive Staff spoiling us, and low numbers of passengers. Snoozed rather than slept. Couldn't get really comfortable in the adjustable seating.
