Focal point

The tower formed the background a million pictures.

A bus stopped and its cargo of tourists all got out, took it in turns to take pictures of each other in front of the tower and got back in the bus which drove off again.

Couples took pictures of each other in a variety of poses - smiling, serious, jumping, balancing the tower on an upturned palm - before rejoining each other to examine the results. After conferring, they would either repeat the exercise or switch places.

A small group of students sketched the scene in pencil or charcoal.

One man took no pictures but simply sat and looked at the tower for a long time.

And me? I took pictures of the people taking pictures of the tower.
