A higher power...

At the turn of the 20th century, a dream of a few men became a community for thousands. In 1909 four lakes were combined into a large lake that today we call Lake Tapps - a 46,700 acre feet water reservoir. Officially it was called Puget Power's White River Project. The photo above is the hydroelectric power plant built in 1911. It had a capacity of 64,000 kilowatts. With improvements to the area, this resulted in homesites for 7500 families. Although the water reservoir is still in use, the power plant was shut down in 2004.
