Closing In

It feels like the phoney war is coming to an end.

We’re past the nonsense now - like fist fights in Asda over the last twelve pack of Andrex - and suddenly it is becoming more real somehow. Not that thousands of deaths worldwide aren’t real, but Stalin had a point about large numbers of deaths of people you don’t know lacking the impact that the loss of a single person you know has.

Work has miraculously found a supply of hand sanitizer and distributed it around the building; there are instructions about washing your hands in the toilets, and it has replaced the weather as an opening conversational gambit with strangers.

I suspect we can all come up with a list of people to worry about; the old or the already sick - which makes the breezy incompetence of our glorious leader all the harder to take.
