Sea Ducks
An unusually calm day and the sea ducks were swimming close to shore. These are mixed flocks of white-winged and surf scoters and there are a big pod of them out in the bay this winter. This means that the clam beds are healthy, and there is plenty for them to eat. Unfortunately, they also attract duck hunters which not only spoils our enjoyment of the wildlife, but disturbs the otherwise peaceful neighbourhood. Who wants to be woken by gunfire in the mornings? Not me.
