The dropped stitch

Forfar Bridie

On the drive home we stopped for a snack at Forfar and I was introduced to Forfar Bridies.

Said to have been invented by a Forfar Baker in the 1850s, these meat-filled pastries look a bit like pasties but don't have potato in their filling.

As a snack for elevenses I would have to say one, with chips, was a little too much, even for me, but it was very tasty. Having sampled the shortcrust pastry version, I bought a flaky pastry one home.

Apparently the 2 holes indicate this is one with onions. Clever.

Forfar Athletic Football Club have a bridie as their mascot. Strange.
