Birthday
Today was my birthday. I am very grateful to be here to celebrate another one. At lunchtime I went to a funeral for one of the Mum’s from my son’s old primary school. We weren’t close but she was always a kind companion through those early years in the playground. She was clearly much loved by the number of people who came to say goodbye. Her children did her proud, each speaking from the heart about what a wonderful mother and role model she was. She was a good soul, always putting others before herself. The eulogies were touching and spoke of her “running a good race”. Her brother spoke some touching words. He says he has found comfort from thinking about us all being put on this earth to do good. Most of us, he said, take about 70 or 80 years to do this but his sister had done all her good deeds by 53 and therefore she had been called to watch over us. I’m not sure if it helps to make sense of life and death but it was a lovely tribute.
