Today we visited the Apartheid Museum which was housed in another concrete monstrosity.
Our tickets determined whether we were white or black and as a consequence we had to enter by a whites or non whites gate. I had a non white ticket and entered accordingly while Ros had a whites ticket which meant we went our separate ways hoping that we'd meet up later in the Museum. Whether we should have or whether we shouldn't I don't know but we didn't. The interior of the museum was a labyrinth of dark and gloomy steel bar lined passages interspersed with large wire meshed cages housing the exhibitions and displays. It was and I'm sure it was meant to be very oppressive. In fact with the merging sound of the umpteen audio visual displays it had the makings of a horror film as the sounds blended together filling my head as I moved from cage to cage. The series of horror films known as "Saw" graphically cut through my mind.
The museum was huge and crammed full of information on the evolution and abolition of Apartheid infact so much so it was overpowering and I'm afraid I gave up and went and sat in the sunshine wondering if I would ever see Ros again. I sat and waited by the exit for over an hour and a half before Ros escaped. She said that she'd tried to find me but to no avail as the museum was so large with lots of nooks and crannies.
We decided that we'd both had enough and would walk across the car park to see if we could get into see the Goldmine museum on the otherside. This museum turned out to be part of an Amusement park and to enter there were two fees one for the park and one for the mine. We felt that the expenditure was too great for something that we were not really that interested in.
Instead we visited the nearby Casino Complex. The driveway up to the Casino was very grand and the entrance and lobby were very opulent. The centre of the large building was full of people endlessly feeding the gambling machines. Ros and I thought we'd try our luck but the machines seemed so complicated that we felt we'd need a degree in gambling before we could play. So we put our money to better use and bought a small "snaxter pizza" and a coffee.
We then got an Uber home to our hotel for a rest before venturing out again. At six we ventured out to the Terrace Bar to celebrate Prosecco Sunday and got there just in time to watch the sun set over Johannesburg.
Moving on after about an hour or so we ate again at the Hard Rock Café sharing a burger chips and a salad.
