Córdoba
We drove through to Córdoba this morning, a journey that took a couple of hours. We are staying in the old part of the city a stones throw from the Mezquita - the famous mosque- cathedral in the old city.
We visited the Mezquita this afternoon and can safely say have we’ve never been in a building like it. It was originally a mosque ( still one of the largest in the world) and inside is full of a forest of red and white double arches. Once the Christians captured Córdoba in the 14th C they used the mosque as a church - and added a few chapels to start with before in the 16th C a church was built in the middle of the mosque. I understand the locals at the time we’re not happy about this act of architectural sabotage - although the church itself is rather impressive.
