Ballast

The first train on the country new line(see entry for 13th March) , is a ballast train to get the levels right of the new track.
And here she is trotting down the line dropping stone ballast onto the track ready for the heavy shovelling of the work gang. They jack the track then pack the stone underneath. Hot work on a sunny spring day.
