Longer Than Expected

Edinburgh from Calton Hill at 5pm today. I was there at 4pm as well - I popped out to the shops and a trip up Calton Hill is only an extra 20 minutes - but I only realised when I got up there that I had forgotten my camera! After a good think on the way back to the office (could I have left my camera in a shop?...) I was pleased to find it lying on my desk and headed back up on the bike this time.

So, two trips instead of one, after sunset instead of before, and so a longer exposure than expected. Just as well I think, the lights weren't on at 4!

Longer and Lighter.

The view is from the north, so east to west from left to right. In the east is Arthur's Seat and The Crags looming over Holyrood at the bottom of the Royal Mile. The High Street, as the Mile is also known, stretches west and up to end at Edinburgh Castle, on top of the hill on the right of the picture. In the background are the Pentland Hills with the lights of Hillend ski slope in the centre of the image.

This is a Hugin stitch of 3 images, each 10s, f/10, ISO 100 at 18mm. I propped the bike up and put a beanbag on the saddle for a few images. Just as well I took some extras - the bike was obviously moving just a little in some of them. Luckily these 3 were nice and sharp.
