America Today by Thomas Hart Benton
Wikipedia says “America Today is a mural comprising ten canvas panels, painted with egg tempera in 1930–1931 by the American painter Thomas Hart Benton. It provides a panorama of American life throughout the 1920s, based on Benton's extensive travels in the country. Originally commissioned for The New School for Social Research, it has belonged to the Metropolitan Museum of Art since 2012.” We saw it today and found it so fantastic. I had heard of the artist but had no idea what his work was. This fills an entire room in the museum and being there is moving and exciting.
We spent many hours again today in the museum. We stuck with 20th century art today and saw so many amazing art works. That museum is a treasure trove.
We had lunch in the museum and dinner in a pizza shop. Then we went to SymphonySpace to a small hall where we took in a concert by the Quaternaglia Guitar Quartet from Brazil. It was great and reminded me of many guitar gatherings I went to with Arvin. The crowd was filled with members of the New York Guitar Society. Arvin was one the original members of the NW Classical Guitar Society in Bellingham.
Shelly and I are now back in our hotel room relaxing and listening to the news.
