Today I had to clear the utility room so my builder could fit the funnel thru from the cooker hood that is going in tomorrow! It is really no more than a long cupboard with the washing machine at the end - but it has been stuffed with all manner of things that needed moving. I discovered lots of peanut shells on the floor along one edge of the floor, the peanuts had all gone to feed the birds so I thought it was just where they had fallen from the sack. As I swept them up I discovered little black bits amongst them - mouse droppings! When I finally got to clearing the top shelf I discovered a hoard of peanuts and next to it a hoard of seeds inside a nibbled hessian sack! On taking out the wooden trays I use for raising seeds I discovered the mouse! As you can see it had made itself a lovely little nest from the foam lining one of the boxes! Sadly it was dead not sleeping :-( I wonder if it died from lack of water, I always keep the door closed as it has Oscars treats stored in there. So plenty of food but no water.
The kitchen is now having things put in rather than taken out and is looking pretty gorgeous - the floor has been laid, most of the walls have a coat of paint, and the ceiling lights and sockets have gone in! Oh the pleasure of flicking a switch and having light and not having to hunt for the kettle on the floor plugged into an extension reel which itself is plugged into a socket that is hanging off the wall! As it is such a long and slow process I am getting to enjoy each new thing that appears and appreciate the work that has gone in to getting it there! I'm still lacking a kitchen door and glass in the window but they will be done this week, along with scaffolding for the installation of my wood burner!! You can see the progress here - I particularly like the one of Oscar who finally found a place for a nap! It gives you a taste of how we are living at the moment!!
