Descent on Sunday Bike Ride
Bit chilly for the bike ride today. Icy puddles and frost but otherwise no icy patches. It was mostly sunny. Not a fast ride though. The crosswind on Gilmerton Rd is quite wild, so glad to get to Dalkeith. Exit from Dalkeith is up the sharp climb to Langside Head, then to Fordel Mains.
On the Humbie road I have to wait to be allowed past the tree surgeons working on a tall tree next to the road. I turn left to head east to West Saltoun and East Saltoun. Nice to have the wind on my back for a while, especially up the climb between the two villages.
From East Saltoun, it's north and downhill to Pentcaitland, then fairly flat and sheltered from the wind by trees to New Winton. The ride back from New Winton is very slow, not helped by the headwind. A grind cycling up to Elphinestone, but on the descent I stop to take the blip photo with the Pentland Hills on the horizon. From Crossgateshall, I cycle through Dalkeith and back up Gilmerton Rd. To avoid the pain of Frogston Road, I cycle through the Braid Hllls.
The ride can be seen at Relive here.
In the afternoon, it is down to Morningside and Bruntsfield. It has clouded over a bit, and the sun is pale behind the clouds.
