Lent 2020 day 9

’They feast in the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.’ (Psalm 36:8-9)

Gideon Heugh writes:
“What sort of universe is this? Is it a place of scarcity, or a place of abundance? The way you answer that question will, whether you realise it or not, govern the way you live.

In a universe of scarcity, there isn’t enough to go around. In this universe, people hold tightly to their possessions. If someone else is blessed, that might be taking away from your blessing.

But that isn’t the universe we live in, because our God is a God of abundance. A God who is infinite, generous, full of grace. There is more than enough to go around. We can hold things lightly, give things freely.

However, due to the unjust systems governing our world, not all have access to this abundance. Our job – as Tearfund, as Christians, as the church – is to ensure that all people do.”
