Took this from the bus today
It's a good example of Edinburgh's (or, I should probably say, Leith's) 1980s freeform approach to architecture. Old bond buildings; new housing blocks. Tres postmodern something.
Anyway, there's a fella abseiling, which caught my eye. Nice wee flash of luminous orange amongst the nothing sky and the buildings. And the bricked up window.
There's many of these non-window windows in Edinburgh (and perhaps elsewhere?). I made a load of work during my Masters based on these windows. They were bricked up when window taxes were introduced (I think during the 18th and 19th centuries). If a property had more than a certain number of windows (5?) then it would be liable for a, then hefty, tax.
